Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy and Trade for Technical Affairs, Saad Al-Hanish, said that 80% of local food industries are remanufacturing of raw materials imported from abroad.

Al-Hanish added in a statement to the “Bekam News” website that the ministry’s strategy supports the localization of food industries in a way that contributes to enhancing food security and expanding the industrial and investment base for the packaging industries, especially with the great demand for Libyan products in the markets of neighboring countries.

He estimated the volume of Libya's imports of food and raw materials needed to operate food industries at $5 billion annually.
