The Permanent Committee for Monitoring the Conditions and Issues of Libyan Prisoners Abroad held its first meeting of the year, chaired by Minister of Justice, Halima Ibrahim, to discuss several draft memorandums of understanding and prisoner exchange agreements with countries such as China and Ethiopia.
According to Our Government platform, the committee reviewed ongoing negotiations with several countries following the visit of the Ministry of Justice’s Deputy General to Lebanon, Egypt, Malta, Tunisia, and Turkey to allow Libyan prisoners to serve the remainder of their sentences in Libya.
It also highlighted efforts to establish a database of all prisoners in countries where the Ministry of Justice has legal attachés and to expand this database to include other countries, according to Our Government.
