Authorities in Malta have seized a drug shipment that was on its way to Libya.

The Maltese Customs Department confirmed it had confiscated the largest quantity of cocaine in its history, weighing 612 kg and a market value of 69 million euros.

The "Malta Today" newspaper quoted the customs department as saying on Wednesday that the consignment came from Ecuador through Colombia, and it was planned to continue its journey to Libya, noting that the drugs were concealed under pallets that were carrying cooking oil .

It is noteworthy that the Brazilian Tax Authority announced last May that it had confiscated 128.4 kg of cocaine, which was also heading for Libya.
