The Maltese Minister of Foreign Affairs, Evarist Bartolo, has warned that Libya, independently, is incapable of dealing with the vast number of migrant shipwrecks, following a devastating incident two days ago in which approximately 130 people lost their lives.

Bartolo told the ‘Times of Malta’ newspaper, that the Libyan coast guard could not possibly monitor the entire length of the Libyan coast-line, due to a lack of drones and radars to assist in monitoring, with only one ship working at times in the observation and detection of smaller vessels.

The lives of 130 migrants were lost on Saturday last when their boat crashed off the coast of Libya in very rough waters.
