Fifty members of more than 16 municipal councils in the eastern region rejected the decision of the Minister of Local Government of the Interim Government to dismiss them and assign the mayors of the municipalities to run the functions of the municipal councils alone.
The Mayor of Tobruk, Naji Maziq, said in a press statement that members addressed the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aqila Saleh, and called for the decision to be nullified.
It is worth noting that the decision dismisses members of elected municipalities who have exceeded their four years term and entrust their duties to the mayors.
