Chairman of the Presidential Council (PC), Mohamed Menfi, discussed on Wednesday with the US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, Barbara Leaf, and the US Ambassador to Libya, Richard Norland, the political and security developments in Libya.

The virtual meeting reviewed developments of the Libyan crisis, especially the security situation in Tripoli, stressing the importance of all parties' commitment to calm down, and not to endanger civilians' lives.

The US Assistant Secretary of State stressed that the failure to appoint a UN envoy to Libya was one of the reasons behind the political impasse, calling for formulation of a unified position in order to appoint new UN envoy as soon as possible, praising the steps taken by the PC in terms of the National Reconciliation Project.

For his part, Menfi praised the role of the USA in supporting peace and stability in Libya, to reach the elections as soon as possible, based on agreed constitutional rule, and to realize the aspirations of the nearly 3 million HNEC registered voters.
