Minister of Oil and Gas Mohamed Aoun has called for forming a new board of directors for the National Oil Cooperation, alleging that its formation lacks legal merit.

In an official correspondence issued Saturday to the Presidential Council Head Mohammed Menfi and Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, the Oil and Gas Ministry said that the procedures followed in appointing the governing council members of the NOC do not abide by the laws and regulations set for establishing the NOC.

It called on the government to take immediate action to remedy this wrong. However, the NOC was not available for comment on Monday.

The ministry proposed in the letter Taher Al-Qatani as chairman and the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil, Rifaat Al-Abbar, Ahmed Al-Ghazal, Al-Dukali Al-Zariqi and Muhammad Dango as possible replacement members.
