The Italian news agency AKI reported on Monday that the Italian Interior Minister, Marco Minniti, described the controlling of the southern border of Libya and the routes of migrants crossing the Mediterranean as critical, not only to address illegal immigration but also in combating terrorism.

Speaking at a seminar on immigration at the European Parliament in Brussels, Minniti stressed that the hypothesis that foreign fighters who poured into conflict zones from some one hundred countries to fight with ISIS in Syria and Iraq, would now after their military defeat attempt to return to Europe by blending in with illegal immigrants, and this cannot be ruled out, according to AKI.
