Residents of the city of Misrata have demanded the UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres to replace his special envoy to Libya, Ghassan Salame, saying that "he is no longer trusted by the Libyan people”.

In a letter delivered Tuesday to the deputy head of the UN mission in Libya, Stephanie Williams, during her visit to the city, Misrata representatives accused Salame of being bias to Haftar and appeasing him, despite his flagrant violations.

"Salame's recent briefing before the UN Security Council contained inaccuracies towards the Government of National Acord (GNA), while at the same time, he did not criminalize Haftar's aggression on Tripoli," the letter reads.

"Salame ignored the killing, disappearance, and kidnapping of innocent people in the areas under his control, including the kidnapping of MP Sergewa, which took place in August, without any account of her whereabouts," it added.
