The Director of the Search and Identification of Missing Persons Department, Lutfi Tawfiq, said that his administration would not be relying upon the identification of human remains through the discovery of personal belongs with the bodies discovered in mass graves.

In a press statement, Tawfiq said that several families had identified their relatives through recognizing personal belongings found with the deceased in the graves; however, he said that this process would not be deemed final until a DNA analysis is completed.

Earlier, the Ministry of Justice confirmed that a number of families were capable of identifying their loved ones through personal possessions found.
