The electric transformers and engineering equipment of five wells of the Man-made River Authority (MMRA) was exposed Wednesday to theft and sabotage.

This incident comes in less than a month of a similar attack, which targeted 3 other wells, bringing the number of wells attacked since the beginning of last year to 77 wells, according MMRA.

The MMRA confirmed via Facebook that these wells are now out of service, which will cause the loss of more than 300 thousand cubic meters and about 30 per cent of the current day needs of water for cities and agricultural projects in the Western region.

It added that the attacks on wells threaten the complete collapse of the system amid the total absence of the official and security authorities in the state.
