Police in Ajaylat town, 80 km west of Tripoli, has handed over 208 illegal immigrants to the Illegal Immigration Agency in Sabratha on Monday evening.  

The immigrants were mostly male, but there were also a number of children aged between 11 and 15 of Eritrean origin.   

The immigrants voluntarily left the warehouse where they were hiding out in preparation for their journey to Europe after becoming unable to withstand their hunger and thirst.

According to one of the immigrants, they did not eat for five days; adding that the situation they were in was very bad and that they were beaten and tortured by the human smugglers.
