The New York Times said that the US President should issue a public decision to condemn Haftar, after the support he received from France and some Arab countries.

The newspaper added that Haftar's recent move was aimed at thwarting the UN-backed National conference with inspiration from the UAE, France, Egypt, Russia, and Saudi Arabia, saying that he is not a "national hero" as he claims and does not have a professional army.

Reports based on United Nations investigations mentioned that the UAE and Egypt have provided arms support to Haftar's military campaign on the capital Tripoli, as well as receiving advisory support from the French government, including confidential advisers to work with Haftar's forces
