A member of the Hay Andulus Municipal Council, Mohammed Kikli, said that the members of the Municipal Council took a majority vote of no-confidence in the Mayor Najm al-Din Hamza. Kikli explained in a press statement on Friday that six out of nine members of the Hay Andulus Municipal Council voted no-confidence in the mayor, adding that the lack of confidence came after several complaints were filed against the mayor, as a result of what he described as abuse of position.

A young man in the city of Benghazi has killed his sister and wounded his other sister and his uncle’s daughter, after he fired a barrage of bullets at them. It is yet to be known why the act was carried out. A security source said on Friday that a young man in one of the residential neighbourhoods in the city entered his sisters’ room and opened fire at the three girls. The body of the dead girl was transferred to Benghazi Medical Center, while the two girls were rushed to another government hospital in Benghazi. Security services began investigating the case immediately after the incident.

The UN envoy to Libya, Ghassan Salame, met on Friday with the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Fatou Bensouda, in the framework of a series of meetings held by the UN envoy on the sidelines of his participation in the Munich Security Conference. A post, published by the UN Mission in Libya on their official Facebook page, stated that those present at the meeting discussed issues related to combating impunity and targeting those who commit brutal crimes in Libya. The UN envoy conducted a series of meetings with international officials during his participation in the Munich Security Conference, including the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Peter Maurer, to discuss latest developments in Libya.

The High National Elections Commission (HNEC) announced the closure of the voter register at home this Friday. The total number of local voters has reached 2.432.502. The HNEC indicated on their website that the total number of local voters included 1.399.540 men and 1.032.962 women. The HNEC said that the process of registration for Libyans abroad will continue until the end of this month, noting that the process of registration is granted through the website voteabroad.ly

The Information Office of the Libyan Navy has refuted the news, which claimed that a boat carrying Libyan immigrants had capsized off the coast of Zuwara on Thursday and dozens of bodies were recovered. A statement by the Libyan Navy said that the Coast Guard and the Navy did not record any reports on the 15th and 16th of February and that in fact there was a discovery of 10 decomposed bodies of migrants, whose boat sank on the 2nd of February. Among the bodies found was one of a Libyan young man whose family had reported him missing days ago.

Four people were injured when an unidentified device exploded during the burning of garbage pile behind a military camp in Benghazi. An official from Al-Jalaa Hospital for Surgery and Accidents, Fadia Al-Barghathi, said in a press statement on Friday that the hospital received four injured people, among them was one in critical condition. The hospital confirmed that the wounded received all necessary health services and care at the hospital. The people of Benghazi continue to be haunted by landmines, improvised explosive devices and remnants of war in various residential neighborhoods that were previously areas of military operations or theatres of war.
