The contests committee at the Libyan Basketball Federation (LBF) decided to suspend the Libyan Basketball Tournament for the first group (western teams) until they can respond to the clarifications sent by Al-Itihad team regarding its failure to show up in the derby match against Al-Ahli Tripoli.

The Libyan Football Federation announced the draw of the eastern region’s quarterfinals of the Libyan Soccer Cup putting forth a derby between Al-Ahli Benghazi and Al-Naser and a match between Al-Hilal and Al-Akhdar. The draw ceremony was stopped on Thursday as Al-Ahli supporters stormed into the building of the LFF and protested the beginning with the draw before their club’s plea regarding the match with Al-Ahli Tripoli in the Libyan Soccer League.

The UN-proposed government’s Minister of Local Governing, Badad Gansu, condemned the replacement of the elected mayors of several eastern municipalities with military ones, saying it is a crime against the residents and a threat to democracy. He emphasized that his ministry will only deal with the replaced mayors and will boycott the recently appointed military mayors.

Benghazi Municipality, which is appointed by the military governor, announced the kickoff of receiving donations and grants from public and private entities as well as from individuals in order to secure the city, given the current lack of security and the necessity to help protect the greater good of the public. It added that a bank account for the donations and grants was opened so that the city can provide the needed security tools and equipment to protect people and their properties, be they public or private, he added.

The workers of the Libyan Ground Handling Company suspended their strike for the upcoming 24 hours starting Sunday after they received an official promise for paying their delayed salaries since 2015, stressing that they will resume strike on next Tuesday if their salaries were not paid as promised.

The National Center for Diseases Control and UNICEF finished the Tunisia-held training course directed at the Libyan vaccination supervisors on Saturday. One of the course supervisors said the aim of the course is to step up the potentials of the trainees and thus boost the capabilities of the whole workforce in polio and measles vaccination campaigns, leading to raise the quality of the coming campaigns and filling in the gaps of the previous ones. The supervisor added that this course is a first for Libyans.

The road linking Ras Ajdair border with Ben Guerdane city from the Tunisian side of the border with Libya is still shut by a number of angry Tunisian people for the fifth day successively in protest for the ban by the Libyan authorities on the departure of foods and fuel from Libya to Tunisia. The Tunisian protesters are also prohibiting Libyan trucks and cars from entering Tunisia, in addition to preventing Tunisians from going to Libya. Only Tunisian and Libyan nationals returning to their countries are allowed to pass by the closed road.
