The Head of the UN-proposed government's Presidential Council, Fayez Al-Sirraj, has stated that Libya's never-changing policy is opposed to any efforts aiming at resettling illegal migrants in the country.

The UN envoy to Libya, Ghassan Salame, gave Monday his first report to the UN Security Council (UNSC) from Tripoli via video conference.

The rift between Awaqir tribe in Benghazi and rogue General Khalifa Haftar widened on Monday following the selection of tribesman Faraj Egaim as Deputy Minister of Interior in the government of Tripoli-based Presidential Council.

The International Organization for Migration said it had deported 6827 illegal immigrants from Libya to their countries in Nigeria, Mali, Senegal, and Liberia as part of the IOM's program that is sponsored by the European Union since the start of 2017. It added that work will continue until they deport 10 to 15 thousand migrants this year.

The Central Bank of Libya (CBL) said that the cash shortage in Libya is caused by economic, political, security and social issues as well as the political division in the country. It added in a statement on Monday that the solution comes by achieving stability in politics, security, and unity of sovereign institutions.

The South Korean ambassador to Libya, Kim Young-Chae, said that the Korean companies working at Khalij power plant in Sirte will resume their work soon, saying the project is strategic for Libya. This came in his visit to the plant with a delegation from Hyundai and Tuscan companies. All companies operating Al-Khalij power plant in Sirte left in 2014 due to lack of security despite the fact that work was accomplished by about 69% at the time.

A source from the Field Operations Room in Sirte said military backup forces from Al-Bunyan Al-Marsous arrived in Sirte on Sunday to boost security in the city. The source added that the step comes after new information about the presence of IS militants in southern Sirte.

Libyan Coast Guard rescued Monday 134 illegal immigrants of Arab and African nationalities while on their way to the Italian shores on a rubber boat.

The so-called Omer Mukhtar Operation Room of Dignity Operation has banned trucks loaded with flour supplies from entering Derna. Sources said the militants besieging the city ordered the truck drivers to unload the flour bags in Bayda city. Meanwhile, Derna officials have warned that flour is running out of stock, which will force all bakeries to close down.

Spokesperson of the General Electricity Company GECOL, Ahmed Hussein, has stressed that the country’s power supply has been improved after connecting new power turbines in Khomis Power Plant with the electric grid, in addition to low temperatures. He said in a presser in Tripoli that Ubari Gas-fired Power Plant will soon be operated and connected to the electric grid with a total of 640 MW. Hussein urged people to rationalize electricity consumption to overcome the obstacles facing the company.

EU Parliament President, Antonio Tajani, has said that an immediate EU plan for Libya, similar to that of EU-Turkey deal on migrants, is needed. In an interview with Italy’s La Repubblica, Tajani said the EU should allocate 6 billion euros to bolster cooperation with Libya’s two rival governments in the west and east of the country to close routes of migrants in the Mediterranean. “Europe gave Turkey 6 billion euros to close the Balkan route. Now it’s the moment to do the same with Libya,” he said. He also called on EU leaders to invest up to 60 billion euros in Africa to tackle causes of illegal immigration to Europe.

A former Gaddafi regime opponent has been killed in Benghazi, sources say. The sources said Fathi Zidan was on his way to a mosque in Silis district to perform night prayer when a randomly-fired bullet fell on him. “The falling bullet was a result of a gunfight between two families in the surrounding area”, the sources added. Fathi Zidan was a prominent opposition figure in the Libyan National Salvation Front since the 70s. He used to call for regime change and peaceful handover of power.

Members of Ubari Municipality have reiterated their call to the Ministry of Local Government to sack Mayor Ahmed Mortadi. The members said in a statement that Mortadi only represents himself and he has no legal right to pass individual resolutions on behalf of the municipality.
