An armed group loyal to former dictator Gaddafi has threatened to cut off water supply to Tripoli from the man-made river water wells in the south if a detained green militiaman was not released from his Tripoli prison.

Clashes between the Special Deterrence Force (SDF) and gunmen from Ghararat district of Tripoli continued on Tuesday for the second day, bringing flights at the nearby Mitiga airport to a standstill.

Man-Made River administration in southern Libya announced Monday the start of maintenance for the main valves at the control system at Shuwarif station, saying the operating teams were also ordered to shut down wells at the Hasawna area and the pumping stations as well to allow service works to take effect. The maintenance will last 9 days during which water supplies from Hasawna wells will be cut, according to the administration.

The General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL) announced late Monday that the technical team that was abducted in the morning was released. The team was kidnapped while working in Qasir Bengashir – a suburb of Tripoli. GECOL added that the team was five technicians and they were beaten before being freed, adding that their phones, money and the car of the Qasir Bengashir distribution unit were stolen from them.

Libya national football team retreated 6 positions on the ranking list of the FIFA that was issued on Monday, thus becoming 87 internationally with 406 points. On the continental level, Libya maintained it ranking at 19 on Africa out of 54 teams. It also retreated two positions on the Arab list to become 10. Libyan was 81 on the international list in the last monthly ranking on September 14, with 422 points.

The Derna Relief Committee said in a statement that its campaign for the city is facing difficulties in its job but will go on with the campaign against all odds until the relief and aids convoy arrives in the city. It added that the National Company for Sea Transport refused to transport the donations as it had no ships for sailing the goods to Derna as the entire fleet it had is for shipping oil and fuel. It also said that it contacted foreign shipping firms, but they demanded air cover and international protection for shipping the aids to Derna.

The Sirte Field Operations Room of Al-Bunyan Al-Marsoos issued an order banning civilians from totting weapons in public places, wedding parties and other events, saying that weapons are also banned from cars in Sirte no matter what the reasons are as long as the owners of the weapons are not from security forces in the city. It also said that legal measures will be taken against the violations including those in wedding parties or any other events.

The member of the High Council of State (HCS) Edriss Bufayed denounced tackling the issue of amending Libya’s constitution by the dialogue parties in Tunisia, saying that was an intervention in the work of a sovereign institution and it was illegal. Bufayed added on Facebook that Tunisia dialogue discussed putting the constitution into a referendum after being reviewed by the Constitution Drafting Assembly (CDA) or adopt the 63 constitution with limited modifications without a referendum. He also said that the act of the dialogue parties was illegal and would push Libya backward after the CDA could finally end the conflict points in the constitution.

The General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL) said Monday that installing work at the Zahraa power plant project finished in three gas turbines with a capacity of 47 megawatts for each one to help reduce the amount of power outages and stabilize the general electricity network. GECOL added that it signed contracts with a German company to import and set up five gas turbines (Siemens) with 47 megawatts each with a total capacity of 235 megawatts, adding that the turbines work by natural gas or light fuel. Two similar turbines were installed in south Tripoli power plant and are now operating.

Education Minister Othman Abduljalil said they are committed to the announced bonuses for every class for the teachers with about over 600 million dinars a year. He also called in a presser on Monday for all the organizations that are urging for strikes to end their actions as they would hinder the teaching process. He also added that the education sector will start the health insurance program and create social security fund that will include all teachers.
