The Nigerien army announced on Sunday the rescue of 50 migrants stranded in the country’s northern desert near the Libyan border, a transit point on the route to Europe.
In a statement, the army explained that the migrants included 20 women and 12 children were stranded in harsh weather conditions after their vehicle broke down on Friday.
It added that units from the Rapid Military Intervention Brigade provided them with assistance in the Djado region of Niger, about 200 kilometers from the Libyan border.
