US Secretary of State Marco Rubio reiterated on Tuesday that there is no plan or ongoing discussion within the US government to transfer Palestinians from Gaza to Libya, confirming that the idea of temporary relocation had been discussed with other countries in the region.
Speaking before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Rubio stated “we discussed with some countries was if someone voluntarily expressed a desire to relocate temporarily, whether due to medical needs, their children’s education, or similar reasons, would there be countries in the region willing to host them temporarily?”
He emphasized that, to his knowledge, Libya was not among the countries involved in these discussions.
Rubio’s remarks came after a recent report by NBC News, which cited unnamed sources claiming that the Trump administration was working on a plan to permanently relocate approximately one million Palestinians from Gaza to Libya.
