The National Oil Corporation (NOC) declared the state of force majeure in the Sharara oil field following its closure by an armed group last Saturday.

The NOC explained via its website that it has initiated a review of the necessary procedures to evacuate workers for their safety as a result of the forced closure of the field by what they described as "militias" that claim to be the guards of oil facilities.

NOC demanded these groups to evacuate the oil field immediately and unconditionally, insisting it will not engage in any negotiations and that no concessions would be made, especially after the use of violence by insulting workers and stealing their phones.
