The spokesman for the Libyan Hajj delegation, Mohammed Al-Hudayri, announced on Thursday that the number of deaths among Libyan pilgrims had risen to eight during this year's Hajj season, while five others are receiving intensive care treatment in Saudi hospitals.
Al-Hudayri added in a video posted on the General Authority for Hajj and Umrah Affairs’ Facebook page, that deaths result from high temperatures and exposure to sunlight, especially among the elderly and those with chronic diseases.
The mission will begin sending Libyan pilgrims to Medina starting Sunday, then transporting them to Libyan airports via 32 flights, according to Al-Hudayri.
