The European naval operation IRINI, charged with implementing the UN Security Council arms embargo on Libya, has published the results of its operations last April.

In April 2023, Operation IRINI investigated 403 merchant vessels via radio calls (out of 9361) and carried out 23 visits on ships with Masters’ consent (out of 470). The Operation also monitored 7 suspect flights (out of 1153) and continued to monitor 25 airports (and landing strips) and 16 ports (and oil terminals).

The operation submitted 41 special reports to the United Nations Panel of Experts on Libya, and transmitted 78 recommendations to the relevant law enforcement agencies to inspect suspicious ships in the ports of European Union member states, 62 of which were implemented.
