The Italian ambassador to Libya, Giuseppe Buccino, has held discussions with the Vice President-elect of the Presidential Council (PC), Abdullah Al-Lafi.

The Italian embassy said that “the two sides had an extensive exchange of views with a focus on reconciliation, elections and the decisive role of parliament”, according to the Nova news agency.

The embassy expressed Italy and Libya's readiness to work together for a future of peace and stability.

Al-Lafi stressed the need for the new government to focus from the first day on the basic needs of citizens and to achieve tangible improvements in light of the limited time frame.
