Palm farm owners in Waddan, Jufra Municipality, have voiced their strong discontent over the continued intermittent power outages affecting more than 500 date-producing farms.

In a protest statement, they reported that hundreds of thousands of tons of dates, both ripe and still maturing, have been damaged due to the lack of irrigation amid rising temperatures.

The protesters held the General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL) fully accountable for the damage to their farms and the loss of their date production.
