The directors of health centres and hospitals of the parallel interim government in Al-Bayda, east Libya, organized a protest Sunday to demand the prevention of the suspended Health Minister, Rida Al-Awakli, from returning to his post.

The protesters directed a statement to the speaker of House of Representatives and the head of the interim government, demanding them not to yield to any pressure and to spare the health sector from political and regional conflicts.

The statement stressed that “Minister Awkali is not the right person for this critical stage”, calling on the government to “pass the job to the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, Saad Aqoub, who showed capacities to address the needs of the sector.”
