Reuters has reported, citing sources familiar with the gas sector, that Saudi Arabia and Libya have financed the purchase of natural gas shipments worth at least $200 million to help Egypt alleviate its energy crisis this summer amid a sharp decline in domestic gas production.

Two sources told Reuters that Libya purchased a single shipment last July, valued at approximately $50 million, funded by the National Oil Corporation (NOC).

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia financed three out of the 32 liquefied natural gas shipments that Cairo has purchased so far this year, with an estimated value of $150 million at current prices.

The agency noted that neither country disclosed Egypt's gas bill. The Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum spokesman did not provide details about the gas tender, stating it was confidential.
