Khalifa Haftar met with Russian Defense Minister Andrey Belousov to explore ways to strengthen defense cooperation between the two sides, according to a statement released by Russia’s Ministry of Defense on Sunday.
The two officials expressed a mutual desire to deepen collaboration through their respective defense ministries, with the goal of supporting security and stability across the Middle East.
According to the Russian news agency TASS, the talks addressed current issues related to bilateral defense cooperation, as well as the overall situation in Libya.
Haftar’s media office added that the meeting also covered regional developments, recent military and security trends, and prospects for expanding strategic partnerships to serve mutual interests.
