The Italian military tracking website Itamil Radar has reported the landing of a Russian Air Force An-124 aircraft at Al-Khadim Air Base, east of Benghazi, Libya. The aircraft reportedly departed from the Latakia airbase in Syria before arriving in Libya on Thursday.
According to Itamil Radar, this marks the first time a Russian An-124 has been tracked landing in Libya. It is also the first recorded instance of a Russian transport plane moving directly between Syria and Libya. In the past, Russian military flights between the two nations typically stopped in Libya before continuing to Central Africa.
The report raises suspicions that Russia may be transferring military equipment and supplies from Syria to Libya, rather than returning them to Russia. The move suggests Moscow may be intensifying its focus on Libya amid ongoing geopolitical shifts in the region.
This development comes at a time of heightened scrutiny over Russia’s growing influence in North Africa and its broader military ambitions.
