The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office of the Tripoli Court of Appeals has ordered the detention of a social worker, pending investigation, on allegations of misappropriating funds from two residents of an orphanage.
According to a statement from the Attorney General's office, the suspect took advantage of the needs of two residents at the orphan care home and seized 243,000 Libyan dinars from their bank accounts.
Following a report received by the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor in the Tripoli Court of Appeals that highlighted misconduct by the individual responsible for the care of the two residents, evidence suggested that the accused leveraged their position for personal financial gain.
Investigations revealed that the suspect exploited the psychological condition of the residents and used fraudulent means to obtain documents that granted access to manage their bank accounts, facilitating the withdrawal of the embezzled amount.
