The Sudanese Foreign Ministry summoned the charge d'affaires of the Libyan embassy in Khartoum, Ali Mahrouq, on Tuesday and informed him of their protest against what they described as the brutal treatment of a group of Sudanese citizens in Libya.

This action came as the Sudanese Foreign Ministry regarded the detention of a group of Sudanese citizens inside Libyan territory in extremely harsh conditions; some of them were subjected to brutal treatment, as not acceptable.

"Our embassy in Tripoli has continued from the first moment and with the highest leadership and competent bodies to continue to pursue this case". The ministry added in a statement.

For his part, the Libyan Chargé d'affaires expressed his deep regret and apology on behalf of his country for this shameful thing, regarding it as “inconsistent with the values and morals of the Libyan people.”
