The General Assembly of the Supreme Court agreed unanimously on Wednesday to reject the decision of the House of Representatives (HoR) issued on March 5, 2023, regarding the appointment of new counselors to the Supreme Court.

Five Supreme Court counselors took the legal oath before the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aqila Saleh, at his home in the city of Al-Gubba last week.

The HoR decided in a closed session held on April 2 to appoint five counselors to the Supreme Court. It did not refer in the text of its decision to enabling the Supreme Court to appoint counselors, as is customary.

Meanwhile, the rejection confirms that the Supreme Court has not nominated these counselors, which came unilaterally from the Speaker of HoR, as confirmed by some sources.
