The director of Tripoli University Hospital (Tripoli Medical Center previously) Abdel Atti Al-Rateeb said surgery operations were halted due to the stoppage of central air conditioning at the hospital.

Al-Rateeb told reporters that the stoppage of air conditioning was due to the fact that they were old and maintenance had not been done since the air conditioners were set up in 2001. He also said the hospital ended the contract with the operator - an Italian company - by sovereign parties due to violations.

Al-Rateeb said Libya's Health Ministry allowed the hospital to open competitive contraction so a new company can repair the air conditioning system.
