Residents of Tajoura Municipality east of Tripoli commemorated Friday the 11th anniversary of the February 25 demonstration against the Gaddafi regime in 2011, in which dozens of people were shot and killed.

Since then, people gather in the center of Tajoura every year on February 25 and make their way towards Martyrs Square in the heart of the capital Tripoli to commemorate the event.

Days after the February 17 Revolution, a mass demonstration set out from the Muraad Agha Mosque in the center of Tajoura demanding the overthrow of Muammar Gaddafi. Along the march, thousands of people joined in the protest and tried to reach Martyrs Square before Gaddafi's forces opened fire on the protesters in the Arada area.
