The Tajoura Municipal Council, led by Mayor Khaled Al-Azraq, discussed potential twinning agreements with the city of Tajoura in Djibouti during a meeting with Djibouti’s Minister of Decentralization and his delegation, who are visiting Libya.
According to a statement from Tajoura Municipality, the initiative aims to foster cooperation between Libya’s Ministry of Local Governance and its counterparts in other nations. The agreements would focus on exchanging expertise and enhancing municipal performance to improve service delivery for citizens.
Discussions also addressed efforts by Libyan municipal councils to overcome centralization challenges that hinder their effectiveness and the development of local services.
Tajoura in Djibouti, located on the northern shore of the Gulf of Tadjoura opposite the capital city of Djibouti, is one of the country’s oldest cities. Known for its iconic white houses and seven minarets, it has a population of around 25,000.
