The Africa Intelligence website has revealed that three diplomats from Algeria, Germany and Mauritius are vying to become the United Nations' next special envoy to Libya after Senegal's Abdoulaye Bathily
This comes in the context of the expected discussions of the Security Council in its Wednesday session regarding the appointment of a new UN envoy, despite the political differences among the members of the Council.
This process, which previously took about a full year to appoint Bathily in September 2022, may be complicated following the resignation of the former envoy from Slovakia, Jan Kubis in November 2021.
