The head of the desalination plant in Tobruk, engineer Fathallah Selim, warned Sunday of the closedown of the plant due to lack of spare parts and the failure of the eastern government to provide the funds required for its maintenance.

Salim explained in a press statement that the eastern government pledged to provide funds for the maintenance of the plant and the purchase of new spare parts, however, until this moment it did not fulfil its promises, holding it accountable for the cessation of the plant.

Salim added that the plant is old and worn out and that they have run out of spare parts for a long time, pointing out that they are currently running the plant with temporary solutions in order to cover the city's need of water.
