The management of Tobruk Water Desalination Plant said in a statement on Saturday that the plant is witnessing a severe shortage of the operating materials needed to keep it active, in addition to the growing age of the plant that has gone nearly 17 years without carrying out any large-scale refurbishment.
The statement said that the plant is also witnessing the collapse of distribution networks across the city and deteriorating storage units and absence of laboratories to regulate the quality and condition of water, in addition to the increase in the percentage of environmental pollution due to the failure of treatment stations due to the lack of operational budget.
The statement warned of a severe humanitarian crisis that may hit the city soon if nothing is done.
