The Interior Ministry released traffic crash data for the past five years, showing that 9,245 lives were lost in motorway accidents nationwide and 11,532 sustained critical injuries between 2018-2022.

The ministry expressed concern as the figures show an increase in casualties compared to the years before 2018.

The report listed 39,618 damaged vehicles due to car crashes, amounting to a total of 218 million Libyan dinars.

As the International Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims approaches on November 19, the ministry announced a set of measures, including intensifying awareness campaigns to address the ongoing crisis of road accidents.

Major General Faisal Barnous, Director of the Ministry's Traffic and Licensing Affairs Department, has instructed the heads of the Traffic and Licensing Departments to reinforce relevant laws to ensure safer roads and fewer accidents.
