The first edition of the Libyan Triathlon Championship kicked off at the Libyan Iron and Steel Co. resort in Misrata on Friday, with the participation of 70 athletes representing nine clubs from various regions.
The tournament comes within the framework of the company's support for sports activities and its commitment to social responsibility, a statement by the Iron and Steel Co. said.
The event, organized in cooperation with the Libyan Triathlon Federation, featured broad participation of heads of public sports federations on its opening day, besides extensive media coverage.
It is noteworthy that triathlon is a modern sport in Libya. Triathletes are being described as "iron men" as they have to compete for the fastest overall completion time, in swimming, cycling, and running over various distances.
