The Tripoli Criminal Court has sentenced a member of a human trafficking gang to six years in prison and fined him 3,000 Libyan dinars.
According to a statement by the Attorney General’s Office on Tuesday, the defendant was prosecuted for exploiting the desperation of migrants seeking to travel from Africa through Libya to the northern Mediterranean. He was found guilty of charging them large sums of money to smuggle them across the sea.
In its final session, the court handed down a six-year prison sentence and imposed a fine, marking a firm stance against human trafficking operations in the region.
