Tunisia's Ministry of Agriculture has confirmed that small numbers of desert locusts have entered the Dhehiba region in Tataouine, coming from Libya, where the insects have been spreading rapidly due to favorable weather conditions.
Following a meeting of the National Locust Monitoring and Control Committee, officials said the situation remains under control.
Equipment and pesticides have been deployed, and regional response teams in high-risk areas have been activated.
Technical teams are carrying out surveillance operations while intensifying cooperation with neighbouring countries and international organizations to curb the spread and protect vegetation.
Strong winds have already carried locust swarms from Libya into Algeria and Tunisia, triggering concern in the region over the potential for further outbreaks.
