The Director of the International Health Care Office at the Ras Ijdir border crossing, Mukhtar Al-Mansouri, has confirmed that the Tunisian authorities had prevented Libyan ambulances from entering Tunisia.

Al-Mansouri explained that the Tunisian authorities issued a decision obligating the patient to hire a Tunisian ambulance, after obtaining approval from the Tunisian Ministry of Health.

He also stressed that this matter does not mentioned in the health protocol agreed upon between the two countries, adding that meetings were held with the Tunisian side to cancel the decision, but the Tunisian authorities did not respond to the Libyan side's request.

“There have been deaths due to the long wait, and some patients are connected to sensitive devices or have fractures that prevent them from being transferred from one ambulance to another”, Al-Mansouri said.
