The UK government has said it would continue to recognize the Government of National Unity (GNU) as the authority tasked with leading Libya to elections, explaining that it does not support the establishment of parallel governments or institutions, as per the UN-led roadmap and the political agreement.

"The UK strongly supports the Libya-led and Libya-owned electoral process and the work of the UN Secretary-General's Special Adviser," the UK embassy tweeted on Friday.

The statement emphasized the need to preserve and build on the progress towards peace and stability achieved through the ceasefire agreement and the LPDF Roadmap.
