The UK ambassador in Egypt, Gareth Bailey, said his country supports holding elections in Libya on December 24 and the departure of foreign fighters and mercenaries from the country, urging Europeans not to impose their political views on other countries.

The ambassador told Egyptian TV channel, ON TV that the UK's stance on Libya is crystal clear, urging for a political and electoral process that establishes interior military situation led by Libyans themselves.

He also referred to the British diplomatic role in resolving the Libyan crisis, saying the UK is playing a leading role at the Security Council to rally around member states' support for Libyans to move forward.
