Director of the United Nations Mine Action Programme in Libya, Fatima Zreik, has stated that more than 444 million square meters in the country are still contaminated with mines or explosive war remnants.
Zreik explained, according to the United Nations, that clearing Libya of the remnants of war would take 15 years at least, pointing out that 16 people, including children, have been killed since the beginning of the year due to unexploded ordnance.
