The head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Jan Kubis, held a meeting with warlord Khalifa Haftar, in Benghazi.

According to a UNSMIL statement, the meeting also included a delegation representing Haftar in the 5+5 Joint Military Committee.

Both sides agreed, according to the statement, on the significance of the commitment of all parties in Libya in holding elections, due to be held on December 24, 2021, along with the vital implementation of the ceasefire agreement.

They also discussed the complete withdrawal of all foreign and mercenary forces from the country and the unification of the military and security institutions in Libya.

The meeting wound up with a final discussion of the acceleration of the opening of the coastal road between Sirte and Misrata at the earliest possible opportunity.
