The United Nations the European Union missions in Libya called, on Friday, called for the immediate release of a journalist, who was sentenced to 15 years in prison by a military court in Benghazi.

The UN mission expressed its discontent with the prison sentence of journalist, Ismail Abu Zuraiba, expressing great concern that his detention and trial could possibly violate Libya’s laws and international rights to a fair trial and freedom of opinion and expression.

The EU mission said it had followed, with great concern, the ruling against Zuraiba by a military court in Benghazi, having been detained for more than two years, calling on the eastern authorities to ensure his fundamental human rights and freedom of expression.
