The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, announced on Tuesday that his office is investigating reports of a mass grave found in the desert along the Libya-Tunisia border, according to Reuters.

Speaking to the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Türk urged authorities to respond promptly and investigate thoroughly, condemning the widespread abuses against migrants and refugees.

"The families of the deceased have every right to know the truth." the UN official said.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) previously reported that at least 65 migrant bodies were discovered in a mass grave in southwestern Libya in March, believed to have died while being smuggled across the desert.
