The United Nations Security Council adopted at its Monday meeting the resolution submitted by Britain and Ireland on the extension of the sanctions regime of the United Nations for Libya to prevent the illegal export of oil and to take action against spoilers of the political process.

The decision was welcomed by Britain, France, the United States and Sweden.

The UK stressed that the resolution was a strong message from the international community that it would not tolerate such crimes, pointing out that the sanctions regime is an important tool for the Security Council to support the government of the Presidential Council, in order to achieve stability in Libya.
