Around 65,000 Sudanese refugees have crossed into Libya through the city of Kufra, with a daily influx of 300 to 400 people, the UNHCR reported, citing local authorities.
According to the organization, the total number of registered Sudanese refugees has exceeded 48,000, with many facing alarming health conditions and risk of disease outbreaks, as it underscored the urgent need for assistance, including food and water.
On Saturday, the media office director of Kufra Municipality, Abdullah Suleiman, said that the number of Sudanese refugees in Kufra has significantly increased, affecting the level of services provided to both the locals and refugees.
Suleiman noted that the number of Sudanese refugees in Kufra equals half the city’s population. He emphasized that the city’s existing institutions lack the capacity to deliver essential services, necessitating additional support and resources.
